Holmes Class (Yr5) – Miss Georgina Wood

Welcome to Holmes Class

Hello! My name is Miss Wood and from September 2024, I will be the new Year 5 teacher at Sandhurst. After spending my childhood in the area, I moved to London five years ago for university and since have taught Year 6 at a school in Twickenham for the last two years.

I love to teach through cross-curricular project based learning and enjoy spending as much time as possible outside: I am really looking forward to utilising the fantastic outside spaces at Sandhurst! One of my main passions is being creative so I enjoy fostering this in class through activities which use a range of resources and mediums to showcase learning. As well as a creative space, our Year 5 classroom will be a respectful, considerate and kind environment founded on teamwork.

As this will be the first year with an independent Year 5 class at Sandhurst, I am looking forward to seeing the fun and different experiences that we can have throughout the year – watch this space!

Our Class Name

Dame Kelly Holmes was born on the 19th April 1970 in Pembury and is a retired British middle distance athlete. She specialised in the 800 metres and 1,500 metres events and won gold medals for both distances at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She set British records in numerous events and still holds the records over the 600, and 1,000 metre distances. She held the British 800 metre record until 2021.
