Welcome to Darwin Class
Hello! I’m Mrs Haynes (formerly Miss Lett) and I teach Year 2 as well as lead PE and French at Sandhurst Primary School. I have a degree in Childhood Studies and a PGCE which were both completed at Canterbury Christ Church University. I joined Sandhurst in January 2020 and love teaching here.
I am a qualified dance teacher and have danced for years. One of my main passions in life is keeping active which is perfect for leading PE in a school! You will see the children and I having a little keep fit session at the end of a school day at any spare opportunity! Alongside dance, dog walks are what I love most. On a weekend, my perfect morning would be to start the day off with a huge walk with my sausage dog, Norman.
Teaching in Year 2 is extremely rewarding because the children make great progress in Key Stage 1. Handwriting is a something I am passionate about and is also big focus in Year 2. We use our previous knowledge of cursive letters to connect our letters and words together so they are joined. The children enjoy working on their handwriting and take pride in their writing and how it is presented.

Our Class Name
Charles Robert Darwin,(12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. He established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, publishing his theory of evolution with compelling evidence in his 1859 book “On the Origin of Species”.
